「空」 – More than just “emptiness”

The Japanese character 「空」 (pronounced “Ku-u”) literally means “emptiness” “space” .

However, in Zen Buddhist teachings, “Ku-u” is by no means to be confused with nothingness or meaninglessness .

“Ku-u” represents the realization that all things are transient , that nothing is permanent or fixed , and that we can overcome suffering by letting go of our attachments .

It is an invitation to see the world as it is – constantly changing and free from fixed ideas.

Especially in our modern, overstimulated world, this realization can be a source of inner peace and freedom .

The Way of Tea – a practice of “Ku-u”
