Our story – from Japan to Switzerland and back

Torru's story

What happens when a Japanese exchange student comes to Switzerland and thinks: "Nobody drinks matcha here"?
Correct – he is (almost) correct.

Back then, matcha was hardly a thing in Switzerland. The bright green color, the bitter, complex taste – too unusual for most people who prefer their coffee with lots of milk foam and sugar. So I thought to myself: "Okay, matcha is probably only drunk in Japan."

But the friendship I formed with Marcel back then endured – and became the beginning of a journey that is far from over.

Marcel's story

Years later, it was my turn to arrive in Japan. I finally wanted to experience for myself what fascinates so many about this country: the rich culture, the beauty of nature, the incredible food – and somehow I had always had a personal connection to it.

One of my grandfathers was a Japanese translator, the other regularly traveled to Japan for business through his camera shop. Japan was never just a distant country to me, but a silent part of my own history. Now I really wanted to understand it.

And when I was drinking matcha with Tohru there, I told him that I'd really developed a taste for it myself – matcha latte has almost become part of my daily routine. I told him that matcha has long been a trend in Switzerland, especially in urban cafés.

That got us talking – and gave us an idea.

Our shared vision

Why not bring genuine, high-quality matcha directly from Japan's small, traditional tea fields to Switzerland? No detours, no compromises. Directly from the hands of those family businesses who have dedicated themselves to their craft for generations – from the first leaf to the last grind.

This is how our passion project came about: Two friends – one from Japan, one from Switzerland – united by a long friendship and a love of good taste.

Matcha connects.
Us. Switzerland and Japan.
And maybe you too soon.
